I was captivated by this story:
A couple in Canada must leave 90 sheep behind when wildfires force them to evacuate. Their two sheep dogs can't be taken, either. So the wife, Lynn Landry, leaves a 35-pound bag of dogfeed behind, and hopes for the best.
After applying daily to go back to their farm, they're finally granted permission -- 20 days later.
The homes on either side of theirs are gone -- burned to the ground.
But their house is still there. And best of all:
The dogs, though grubby, are fine. So are 89 of the 90 sheep. The dogs protected them not only from the fire, but kept them safe from bears and other predators. And they guarded (and guided) them to water and food that whole time. (Rescue workers brought in an extra bag of food for the dogs, as well.)
Wow. GOOD DOGS!!! (Read all about it here.)

September 1st brought in cooler, windy weather -- though we still tend to get a lot of heat in the morning and early afternoon. Maybe we'll even get some (gasp) rain! A few leaves here and there are starting to turn. Could autumn be on its way?
Piles are still everywhere, and we still catch an occasional flash of brown. Hopefully Mousies will continue to visit the traps under the kitchen sink. I know they're trying to find a place for the winter, but this is ridiculous.
Like Tad and Sophie, we're staying put for now...too many people head out for the mountains and elsewhere here in Colorado on Labor Day weekend. You should see the traffic jams when they all try to come home Monday night!
I'd rather hang out here and get work done -- for now, at least. We'll have more time to enjoy life after the tourists head home.
Happy Labor Day weekend to you.

I enjoyed the story about the Canadian dogs. They were so faithful to do what they were created to do. Love that!
Don't you know God is so very pleased when we do what we were created to do: glorify Him!
Now that summer is winding down in your area, but it continues here for many more months, I get the feeling of being on another planet from our long-time Rocky Mountain home. The distance from Colorado seems greater when the seasonal weather takes such different directions.
We have our eyes on Hurricane Irma out in the Atlantic right now. Local news says we should know more by about Tuesday, as to how much/little we might need to do hurricane prep. We are already about as ready as we can be and thankfully, our house is in one of the better locations should such a thing happen (as much as humans can predict, of course).
We watched the Bronco game on TV this past Thursday night. Felt some nostalgia.
Enjoy your weekend.
Barbara, I hope you stay ok. Tell Irma she can come back later for tea!
We are going through a hot days/cool nights spell right now. It's refreshing, especially at night, but the tomatoes aren't doing so good. They need heat all the time to bloom and produce.
We're hanging in there. Glad you are, too.
Thanks for writing.
