Monday Stuff On the Way to Other Stuff: Dust Storm

One thing we were NOT told about moving here: the wind.

Our friends in the Valley tell us that it's very common to have the wind blowing. Normally a breeze doesn't bother me, so I didn't think much of it. But this weekend, we went to an auction out on the plains. It was actually very cool -- an interesting mix of Amish and Spanish-speakers, with a generous sprinkling of rednecks. And us! Several black buggies and horses were parked out by the rows of dirt-streaked pickups. (Including ours - it's a tradition out here.)

Halfway through the auction, a cold wind picked up... to 30 mph or more. Huge dust clouds surrounded the auctioneer and the crowd before it was through -- but we at least got a floor jack the Brick was hoping for.

We drove home in a tan haze. Fortunately, the trees and brush around our house keep the dust to a minimum. But we (and Ruby) must have absorbed a cup or two, at least. Welcome to Southern Colorado. It will be interesting to see what happens the rest of springtime.

Yes, it looks like this...

Stuff is a bit sparse this week -- still working on reports a lot. Next week should be beefier.

The Supreme Court rules unanimously -- Trump's name WILL be allowed on the ballot, regardless of what Colorado's Secretary of State says. Here's a thought, people who thought otherwise -- if this didn't happen, couldn't you choose anyone whose actions you didn't approve of, accuse them of whatever (without bothering with an arrest or trial) -- then decree that they couldn't be on a ballot, either?? (I intend to point this out to our esteemed Governor Polis, who's pulled plenty of 'iffy' things in the past.)

Europeans don't understand these. But Americans find them funny!

The New York Times, the 2020 election and Hunter Biden's laptop...was it biased? A former editor says yes.

The guy who bought an apartment in Italy -- and found some surprises that complicated matters.

"Whew, that was close" moments.

The incredible story of Himmler's masseur...and the many lives he saved during WWII.

A $1 billion donation will let medical students at one school attend tuition-free.  Wow!!!

Have a good week. Stay out of the wind!
