Monday Stuff On the Way to Other Stuff: Another Great One Is Gone

I haven't mentioned it lately, but my much-loved Pa died on Feb. 25, nearly two decades ago. This week, his oldest sister, our aunt Wilmetta, joined him -- on the same day. She was so kind and gentle! And a gracious foil to her feisty husband -- who loved to tease The Mama. Suppers at their house were filled with laughter. My cousins have retained that same zest for enthusiasm and fun.

I wonder -- does God allow us to come back to escort people we love, when we've died -- and it's their time to go? I've always hoped Dad was there when Mom died, a few years back.

I'll ask, when I get there. See you soon, Mom, Dad, Aunt Wilmetta and Uncle Bill... with love.

Wilmetta DeVries Bok.  A Detroit Tigers fan -- can you tell?
Many sleepy Sunday afternoons were spent at Grandpa & Grandma's house,
listening to Tigers games on the radio.

Meanwhile:

A piece of George Harrison's 1962 breakfast toast just sold. Plus threads from his jeans, and fluff from his bed. We don't know the final auction price -- but it sold in 1992 for $1600, as part of a 'Beatles scrapbook.' (The new owner plans on framing the toast. I wish I was making this up.)

Guess what Michelle Obama and her daughters like to do in their spare time?  Knitting and crochet!

Interesting new studies on the Shroud of Turin.

Two pottery vases, purchased for 2 pounds... let's say this: they're worth a LOT more.

Treasures stolen from the bottom of the sea? Yep, if you have diving gear.

This engineer from Disney downloaded a AI tool -- and it destroyed his worklife, not to mention Disney's files. A good warning here about so-called 'free' software you don't know anything about.

The serial squatter of Malibu.  Fascinating.

As if you didn't already know, Gene Hackman, his wife and dog were found -- dead. We both loved the work of this matter-of-fact actor. He wasn't a big horn-tooter, but he was one of the best.

Great healthy foods on a tight budget.  I love Mavis's insight on these things. (From One Hundred Dollars A Month)

Romania wants its El Greco back. The painting was 'stolen' by its former king!

Dancing missiles, behind singing schoolchildren? One group's visit to North Korea.

Will some of the money 'clawed back' by DOGE be given to us everyday taxpayers?

Have a great week.

I'm a little puzzled by all the whimperoing. We had to submit reports like this regularly at Quilter's Newsletter. Why not our government, too?
