For All You Brides-to-Be Out There

Gee, and I thought asking for a blender on my registry was going too far.

I wish the bride's message was a joke, but sadly, it probably wasn't. My bridezilla experience was from years ago. We attended a huge (3,000 member) church. Brides would go through the picture directory and send invitations to everyone. My Mother, an old-schooler, would always send a gift. ALWAYS! She didn't have the money but did it anyway. I argued and said if you don't know the person, you don't send a gift! After I moved out and had been gone for almost a decade, I stopped by her house to see an invitation addressed to me sitting on her table. The people didn't know me well enough to know I had been gone for ten years. My Mom confessed she had been sending gifts in my name to all of those bridezillas because she knew I would refuse.
When I married, I refused a shower and only invited family and close friends to my wedding - people who knew me. We had a sit-down dinner, not just a little cake, punch, and nuts.
