Well, quilting friends, Covid-19 has hit our neck of the woods hard --
ALL quilt shows sponsored by
the American Quilting Society for 2020
are cancelled.
(See here for the announcement.)
Also:
The Mancuso Brothers quilt festivals (QuiltFest)
are cancelled, as well --
BUT they are sponsoring Online Quilt Festivals.
They say the one they've already hosted gained "a very enthusiastic reponse," so are doing more. (Go here for info.)
Quilts Inc., sadly, is right in step with the others --
International Quilt Festival & Market (Houston): cancelled.
International Quilt Market (Pittsburgh): cancelled.
International Quilt Festival (Long Beach): postponed.
(More info here)
I knew the gigs I was booked for had been cancelled -- but had hoped, I guess, that the big national conferences would go on. Obviously, that's not going to happen in 2020, although show organizers are hopeful that things will change next year.
What a sad day for our field..what a sad year for the world.
I'm glad it won't stop us from making quilts in our own worlds, though...

Nothing, I mean nothing, can stop us from quilting! Well, maybe if our machines die ... but there's always hand quilting!
Hooray for that! Our ancestors quilted beautifully under much more difficult circumstances. I plan to do some myself, once I get these deadlines met. I'm not positive why, but something about the fabric moving under my fingers -- and knowing I'm making something that not only expresses myself, but tells the recipient I care about them -- is a very comforting thing for me as I stitch. Life goes on.
Thanks for writing.
