I was wrestling a suitcase onto a NYC subway once, and managed to have it fall -- right onto a fellow passenger's toes. Instead of yelling at me, she righted it and said, "Here you are, no problem." I goggled at her, and found my face blurting out: "But you're from New York!"

    "We don't all act that way, Honey," she said. (I shouldn't tease too much -- life isn't easy there right now, either.)
