Comparing Pence with Harris: Fact Checking the Vice Presidential Debate

In keeping with fairness -- a look at the two candidates who debated Wednesday night, and some fact-checking sites on what they said.

Here are 10 things you should know about Vice President Mike Pence.

And 10 things about Senator Kamala Harris.

Notice how different their backgrounds are. Experience, too.

Is it just me...or did Vice President Pence get more of a fair shake on these fact-checking sites this time around? At any rate, his problems in this department were accompanied by... Senator Harris' problems, as well. Both underestimated, overestimated and took things out of context. They also reported facts truthfully.

Two candidates, whose assertions are treated equally -- or nearly so? Go figure. (And please don't mention that stupid fly.)

There are still inequities -- but that's life. I wouldn't figure it any differently. The secret is not to read just one site's 'fact'-checking -- and assume that's it. Opinions vary widely on these sites -- and sadly, more than a few are biased by how they feel about President Trump or Joe Biden. So choose at least two sites for comparison.

Here's MSN's fact-checking.

Oregon Live checks in.

Factcheck.org gives its take on the subject.

'Just the News' has their say.

The Washington Post weighs in.

Here's Bloomberg's look.

The Week's assessment. One of the stranger reviews in this mix.

And the Detroit Free Press. (I thought this one especially interesting, considering how focused both Trump's and Biden's campaigns have been on Michigan as a 'swing state.')

When it comes to downright rude, crude and insults, who better to educate us than Kathy Griffin, who I respect soooo much. (Note what she focuses on -- and it's not the issues, either.)

And because I can't help myself, NPR clocks in on the fact-checking, too. But this seems a little odd -- it's much more subdued this time than during the earlier presidential debate... perhaps because the NPR pundits described Wednesday night's doings as "pretty normal."

Less than a month to Election Day. Thank God. As one of my young friends said, 'I'm not sure how much more I can take.'

    Me too, Honey. Me too.

If you want to comment -- be nice.
